Ocean Opus Covid-19 Safety Plan

At Ocean Opus Music Academy the health of our Teachers and Students are important to us. We have created the following policies and protocols to ensure the wellbeing of everyone in our academy and our community.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Marissa Kitson at office@oceanopus.com

Covid-19 Signage in Public Areas


We have affixed signage on proper hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene, and physical distancing throughout the following locations:


Outdoor Academy

  • Near sanitizing and washing stations

  • Near the both sheltered Outdoor Studios



  • House entryway Sanitizing Station leading to the Washroom  

  • In the Washroom


Staff Room

  • House entryway Sanitizing Station leading to the Staff Room and Storage Room

  • In the Staff Room

  • In the Storage Room


Cleaning and Disinfection Procedures


Outdoor Studios


All of the following items are sanitized before and after every student’s lesson.  All staff members must complete and sign the cleaning and disinfecting log provided before any students are permitted to enter either of the Sheltered Outdoor Studios.

  • Tent legs 

  • Piano(s)

  • Benches

  • Amps 

  • Chords & Cables

  • Chairs

  • Tables

  • Music Stands

  • Foot Stools

  • Whiteboard

  • Pens (Ball Point & Whiteboard), Clothes Pegs, Picks and any other supplies.  


At a minimum the following locations are cleaned and sanitized twice daily; however, higher traffic areas are disinfected more frequently throughout the day.  


Staff Lounge and Storage Room:

  • Floors

  • Sliding Glass Door Handles and other entryway contact points

  • Light Switches & Thermostat

  • Hard Surface Chairs and Benches

  • Sheets placed over any fabric seating will be changed twice daily

  • Tables

  • Contact points around interior Doorways and Windows

  • Lamps and Light Switches

  • Desks

  • Storage Bins

  • Chairs

  • Benches



  • Stairs leading up to the Front Door

  • Front Door Handles

  • Contact points around Sanitation Station in the entryway of the house

  • Washroom door Handles

  • Light switches

  • Sink Handles

  • Toilet Contact points

  • Floor and all other spaces in the Washroom (Shower etc.) will be disinfected once or twice daily.  


Student and Teacher Health and Wellness


Ocean Opus will ensure that all employees are informed of the best practices to encourage proper hygiene etiquette.  Additionally, the necessary products and equipment will be readily available for use in order to follow these best practices.  


Lessons, Camps & Clinics

  • Students and Teachers must sanitize their hands before they enter any designated teaching areas.  

  • Students and Teachers will wash their hands frequently throughout the day. 

  • Students and Teachers will only congregate outside.  

  • Students and Teachers will avoid common greetings, such as handshakes.

  • Teachers and Students will maintain a distance of 6 feet from one another as much as possible.

  • Teachers and Students will wear a face mask during times when the distance of 6 feet can’t be maintained.  

  • Students are not permitted to enter Ocean Opus Common Spaces (Staff Lounge and Studio A).

  • Students can only gain access to Marissa Kitson’s home through the front door and only are permitted to do so to gain access to the Washroom. 


Staff Common Spaces

  • No more than 2 Staff members can access the Staff Lounge or Studio A at a time.  


Screening of Teachers


Ocean Opus will pre-screen all Teachers before they start their shift.  This pre-screening will be to visually check if the employee/customer displays any symptoms.  The provincial health officer of BC and the BC CDC has issued that anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and painful swallowing, must self-isolate at home for a minimum of 10 days. This order will be reflected in Ocean Opus’ policies.  


Screening of Students


Students will be sent home immediately if they exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and painful swallowing.
